Bears

Bears by Lyle Lovett (Thanks for sending this Carrie!)

Some folks say there ain't no bears in arkansas
Some folks never seen a bear at all
Some folks say that bears go around eating babies raw
Some folks got a bear across the hall

Some folks say that bears go around smelling bad
Others say that a bear is honey sweet
Some folks say this bear's the best I ever had
Some folks got a bear beneath their feet

Some folks drive the bears out of the wilderness
Some to see a bear would pay a fee
Me I just bear up to my bewildered best
And some folks even see the bear in me

So meet a bear and take him out to lunch with you
And even though your friends may stop and stare
Just remember that's a bear there in the bunch with you
And they just don't come no better than a bear

Woolly Bear

While on our nature walk at NCTC, Katie found a peculiar looking reddish rolled up caterpillar. Our nature guide casually said, "Ah yes. That's a woolly bear." My head almost fell off my neck. A woolly WHAT?!?!?! Woolliest bear. I came home and made my gstatus a picture of a woolly bear. Kate made it her gpicture but she feared it looked like "a weird pill or a piece of poo." So to solve all our problems I gave woolly bear googly eyes and a nice smile. Kate then went ahead and yammered this photo, exposing me to all of NEEF as a complete weirdo. I guess it's time everyone found out... And that is the legend of woolly bear!

For Jane- With Love and Beariness

When I was at NCTC completely bewildered and frantically panicked over my lack of ability to communicate with the outside world in any reliable way, Nikita thought it would be a great idea to send me the above photo. Her, Dick, drinks, and FREE FLIPPING TOYS. Great Nikita, thanks a lot. Subsequently, she wrote me the following apology poem:

Poem for you:

My sweet sweet Jane
I'm riding on a train
You're near a fake fire
I'm far from hire
Just two baby cucks we are
Our distance is far too far
We will reunite soon
Under a pretty moon
Our furs will shine
We will no longer pine
There will be lots of treats
And even a few sweets
No talk of snooki
But definitely a can of cookies
I will demand the Taco bell
And give everyone hell
I will also ask for no caps talk
But at my request, everyone will balk
And then ill be distracted with music and dance
And will spill a drink on my pants
We'll all have a good laugh
At my silly gaffe
And bears will never feel crappy
Because we are so happy!

Best train DROID poem of all time :D

Also as a side note the title of this post is, of course, modeled after "For Esme- With Love and Squalor" which is one of my favorite short stories.

"Bonfire"

Due to recent drought, there is currently a fire ban in place around these parts. That meant no bonfire. Which would mean no smores. Kate and I were not having it. So we put our brainfruits together and created what you see pictured above. And one of the HCPs sang to us and played his guitar, my favorite was about swimming salmon. "Salmon salmon, you're a fish..."

Weird

First I found a picture of myself on the wall here at NCTC... And then found Nikita too!

Volunteer Bear

I volunteered on 9/11 Day of Service at Upshur Community Center, painting the basketball courts. MUCH harder work than I ever thought it would be. Also got to see swimming dogs because it was the first weekend after labor day and they were letting people bring their dogs for a swim before they drained the pool. DOG DAYS OF SUMMER. Get it? Pictured above: What Nikita thinks I look like volunteering versus what I actually look like. Pretty indistinguishable.

How To Use An Escalator In DC

Another gem from Kissairis' endless expert reach into the interwebs. Speaks so loudly to me. The photo is the metro entrance/exit I use everyday, Dupont North, and you will notice that there is no one on that right hand escalator because it is most likely not working, as per usj.

One of my favorite pieces of writing, authored by the EVER dashing Jonathan Swift.
